BenQ announce UK availability of the E72

BenQ announce UK availability of the E72 Coolsmartphone launched several years ago dedicated to Windows Mobile Smartphones. These were cool new devices, usually with a numeric keypad and never with a touch-screen. Over time we’ve branched out to cover all manner of Windows Mobile devices but, deep down, the Smartphone (which is now known as Windows Mobile Standard) still tugs at our little heart strings. So, we can’t help but feel all warm inside when BenQ passed us details of the E72 Smartphone. Regular visitors may remember this from February last year but now, finally it’ll be appearing in the UK.

This quad-band handset has 128Mb of ROM and 64Mb of RAM plus a microSD card slot for extra storage. There’s a 2 megapixel shooter around the back and Bluetooth® 2.0 plus WiFi 802.11b/g connectivity. Although currently available exclusively on BT Fusion, BenQ state that this is the first of many handsets to be launched in the UK.

Introducing the BenQ E72

Take your office on the move – in style

London, 26 June, 2008: BenQ, a leading provider of networked digital lifestyle devices, today unveils the BenQ E72, an advanced, lightweight business smartphone that seamlessly connects via both mobile and Wi-Fi networks.

The BenQ E72 boasts a unique combination of features: it’s one of the slimmest – and most stylish – Windows Mobile 6 devices currently available and it allows you to move between GSM and Wi-Fi networks without dropping a call.

Designed to allow business users to stay connected and up-to-date on the move, the BenQ E72 provides instant contact via text and voice, email and IM. The Windows Mobile 6 software lets you stay on top of things through mobile versions of familiar Microsoft applications such as Outlook, and Windows Live plus applications unique to mobile, including Smart Traveller – providing the hyper-connected individual with a mobile office.

The BenQ E72 is also the first device to feature in-built IM software that enables you to keep in touch with your contacts no matter which IM network they’re on – be it MSN, Google Talk, Yahoo ICQ, AOL or Jabber. Outside of work mode, the E72 enables you to access Web 2.0 on-the-go: download videos, catch up with friends on social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, and even check out news or blog updates with the RSS feature.

All this technology is packed into a device weighing just 90g and measuring only 13mm in width. The E72 comes in a sleek black finish with a striking high gloss and red detailing.

Commenting on the E72, Dr. James Lee, Associate Vice President at BenQ Corporation said: “As the first device in BenQ Mobile Communications’ new range, we’re obviously very excited about the E72. It’s got all the benefits of Windows Mobile 6 so you can do more than ever on the go plus you can move between mobile and Wi-Fi networks without dropping a call. And all this in one of the slimmest, lightest smartphones on the market.”

The device, which is the first of several new BenQ handsets set to be launched in the UK, will initially be available exclusively on BT Fusion.
