Just before Christmas we ran a story on an interesting looking device called the HTC Athena. Although at first it may look a little different than any other Pocket PC you’ve ever seen; the specs list is astonishing. It comes with Windows Mobile 5.0 (Pocket PC) running on a 624Mhz Intel XScale CPU, a 5 inch TFT 640×480 pixel screen, 8Gb internal HD, 64 /128 MB RAM and 128/256 MB ROM; WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 and a miniSD slot. The Athena uses GSM and comes with GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900) and UMTS/HSDPA (2100 MHz). As if that’s not enough there’s also GPS on board, a 3 megapixel camera and a TV-out plus a VGA-out connector!
There’s more good news too, because the HTC commercial arm are to sell it as the HTC X7500 and there’s a review of it here at hpc.ru. The detachable keyboard converts the handset into a mini-laptop but it’s perhaps not as small as you might like. Also, T-Mobile will release it as the AMEO, so you should get chance to buy it on or off a network! There’s a picture of the T-Mobile AMEO here.
