So you've got yourself a spanky new Windows Mobile phone - what do you do with that rubbish old Nokia ? Sure, you could bin it. You could even use it to prop the kitchen door open like me. However, what could be better than getting cash for it ? Well, thanks to a company called Envirofone.com you can. All you need to do is browse to their website and locate the phone you have. Then, after you've found out how much cash you can get for it, you simply put it in a jiffy-bag and send it to "FREEPOST ENVIROFONE" or put it in the pre-paid envelope that they supply. Plus, if you work for a company and have a big drawer full of old phones you can ask for a stock of as many freepost envelopes as you want - you can even write your own promotional code on the envelopes and they'll record any received.
Envirofone will perform certain checks on the phones first - that they turn on and work, that they have battery and memory cards (if it came with one), plus the phones should be of UK spec and shouldn't be crushed or water damaged - although you can send ones in that have mild cosmetic damage such as light scratching. You then receive payment in cash, in Argos vouchers or onto an "eCard" which you get when you send your first phone back - this can be used to buy products from any Argos store in the UK. It's worth bearing in mind that you get more money if you choose the vouchers. Even my old Nokia 6310i is worth £23.97, however if I go for vouchers I get £27.56. I also had a quick look for Windows Mobile phones and yes - even the Orange SPV range is on the site.
The phones that Envirofone receive are re-used wherever possible in areas around the world which need them. These areas usually have a poor landline infrastructure which creates a demand for the type of mobile technology some of us would class as obsolete. If mobile phones cannot be re-used, they are recycled in the appropriate manner.
